Three Break Up Pieces
Deluded
Of course I didn’t love you,
But I said I did, didn’t I?
And you – loved me. I heard
it,
Felt it in your words, felt
the words
Seeping in. Dry fibres,
thirsty roots of me
Crackled as they all poured
in.
Unlikely
Now watch me sink fast –
Buoyed only by hope
And a belief in the unlikely –
Treading water at the best of times.
Still got my teeth, some of my hair,
A hole in my shoe, and no you.
Not You
It’s stretching out away
from me,
From what’s not liked,
Fingertip-touching, breathing
barely into
Warm, elusive better place,
That I miss.
