Three Break Up Pieces

Deluded

Of course I didn’t love you,
But I said I did, didn’t I?
And you – loved me. I heard it,
Felt it in your words, felt the words
Seeping in. Dry fibres, thirsty roots of me
Crackled as they all poured in.

Unlikely

Now watch me sink fast
Buoyed only by hope
And a belief in the unlikely
Treading water at the best of times.
Still got my teeth, some of my hair,
A hole in my shoe, and no you.

Not You

It’s stretching out away from me,
From what’s not liked,
Fingertip-touching, breathing barely into
Warm, elusive better place,
That I miss.
